Lamps, tables, chairs, beds, showers, trays, mirrors, rugs and door handles : the French designer Inga Sempe focuses her research on everyday domestic objects and their industrial production.
The Design Platform — a space inside the Museo del Design Italiano dedicated to exploring key themes and figures of contemporary design — is transformed into a home, made to scale.
The immersive exhibition itinerary takes us into the rooms of a house that looks as if it has been lived in right up until moments before the exhibition opened. Within this domestic setting, the designer’s curious mechanics and colorful functionality are revealed through her projects, objects and designs, alongside works by varied artists (among others, the painter Mette Ivers, designers Massimo Morozzi, Gio Ponti and Achille Castiglioni, artist Saul Steinberg and painter Domenico Gnoli), while we are invited to try out everyday actions in the spaces, such as reading a book on the sofas or turning the lights on and off ; in that way, we too can leave our mark on the “imperfect home”, full of timeless objects a long way away from the laws of marketing.

Lampes, tables, chaises, lit, douche, vaisselle, miroirs, tapis et poignées de porte : la designer française Inga Sempé consacre ses recherches aux objets du quotidien et à leur production industrielle.
La Design Platform — un espace du musée du design italien dédié au design contemporain — se transforme ici en une maison à taille réelle. Le parcours immersif de l’exposition nous invite à parcourir les différentes pièces d’une maison qui semble avoir été habitée jusqu’à quelques instants avant l’ouverture de l’exposition. Dans cet environnement domestique, la curiosité pour la technique et la fonctionnalité, propres au travail d’Inga Sempé se dévoilent à travers ses meubles et ses objets, mis en dialogue avec les œuvres d’artistes variés (entre autres, la peintre Mette Ivers, les designers Massimo Morozzi, Gio Ponti, Achille Castiglioni, l’artiste Saul Steinberg, le peintre Domenico Gnoli).
Le visiteur est invité à s’approprier cet espace domestique en réalisant des gestes du quotidien : lire un livre installé sur un canapé, allumer ou éteindre les lumières… Ainsi, chacun peut à son tour laisser son empreinte dans cette « maison imparfaite », habitée d’objets intemporels.
